Pitt Commissioners approve merit bonuses for employees

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. - Pitt County Commissioners approve funding for a merit pay bonus. County Manager Scott Elliott recommended the county use $171,450 in state reimbursements to offer county employees the $150 bonus.

County Spokeswoman, Kiara Jones says the state increased fees on those who were delinquent on their motor vehicle taxes. This was in anticipation for the Tag & Tax Program. The $171,450 returned to Pitt County was money left over from a larger pot. The state distributed the total among all 100 counties.

The merit payment is tied into an employee's evaluation.

In June, the county's executive staff turned down a 4% bonus granted to them by County Commissioners in a closed session. The bonuss drew a lot of public attention and in a letter Elliott although the team is grateful for the recognition, they feel the attention is distracting.

The board of commissioners approved the bonuses (7-2) at their May 19th meeting.
