Minor injuries reported in deputy-involved crash

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. - Crews have cleared the scene of a three car collision involving a deputy in Greenville.

It happened Monday around 1:15 p.m. on County Home Road.

Police say a Pitt County deputy was responding to a call, traveling out of town when the accident occurred. As cars in his lane merged to the side of the road, the deputy passed in the center turn lane. A truck traveling on the opposite side of the road suddenly braked, causing the driver of the car behind the truck to swerve to try to avoid hitting it.

That car struck the deputy's car, which then caused a chain reaction. The deputy's car slid into a third car. Both the deputy's car and the 3rd vehicle came to a stop in a ditch on the side of the road.

Traffic was backed up in both directions for about an hour while crews cleared the scene.

The deputy wasn’t transported. People in each of the other two vehicles were taken for medical treatment, but their injuries don’t appear to be life-threatening.
