Greenville chamber and mayor welcome new business

Posted: Updated:
Tuesday morning local leaders gathered at the Greenville Hilton to announce a new business coming to Greenville.

The Telco Credit Union has chosen Greenville for the first branch location of the non-profit financial institution. The Tarboro based credit union was founded in 1941.

City leaders, The Greenville Chamber of Commerce, and representatives from the Greenville Ronald McDonald House were in attendance. The credit union has a partnership with the charity. Mayor Allen Thomas spoke at the event and welcomed the business to the community.

9 On Your Side spoke to the Credit Union CEO Charles Johnson about why the bank chose Greenville when the town has seen other local banks close or merge. “Our mission over the past few years is to branch. We know that banks merge and credit unions merge, but our business strategy and plan has been to grow through branching and this provides that opportunity for us” said Johnson.

Telco will open their new location at 631 East Arlington Blvd. Credit Union representatives hope the building will be ready to open in the spring of 2015.
