Goldsboro woman shoots suspect during break-in

Posted: Updated:

Deputies say a Goldsboro woman shot a man in the chest Thursday when she saw him breaking into her storage building.

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office said 28-year-old Paige Ham shot Christopher Todd Brogden, 28, when she caught him breaking in to the storage building on her property on Providence Church Road in Goldsboro.

The sheriff's office said Ham noticed the lock was missing from her shed after hearing a noise behind her home around 4:30 a.m. Thursday. Ham asked her roommate to call 911 and then went outside to see if anything was stolen, the sheriff's office said.

As she approached the shed, deputies said Brogden ran out of the building towards her, at which point Ham shot him in the chest.

Brogden was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital and then to Vidant Hospital in Greenville, where he is in stable condition.

The sheriff's office said no charges will be files against Ham. Brogden, however, faces charges in connection with the break-in.
