An early morning fire leaves one woman dead.

The Beaufort County Fire Marshal, Curtis Avery,  tells 9 On Your Side  the fire happened on the 5600 block of Cherry Run Road in Washington.  Clark's Neck and Old Ford Volunteer  Fire Departments  received the fire call  Saturday morning just after 3 o'clock.

Avery says when fire crews arrived the home was fully engulfed. It was at that time the crews learned a woman was inside the home. Avery says the woman's body was discovered after the fire was put out.
A family friend identifies the woman as 62-year-old Mildred Heath.

Fire officials say the woman was the only one home at the time. They do say that the woman's son lived at the home but he had left before the fire started.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Fire officials says at this time there is no evidence of  foul play.
