UPDATE: GA Power Stops Rolling Blackouts in Statesboro Following Explosion

    UPDATE: Georgia  Power has stopped the rolling blackouts in Statesboro, All customers should be returned to normal service. 


An explosion and fire at the Georgia Power substation on Veterans Parkway and U.S. Highway 301 South has caused power outages and rolling blackouts in parts of Bulloch County.  In all about 2,000 customers are affected.

Power from the damaged substation has been rerouted to another substation in the area but there will be rolling blackouts in some places through out the day. The blackouts will affect

Bulloch County schools but officials say they are prepared to handle temporary outages.

School officials say they will rely on back up generators to power emergency lighting and alarms systems as well as serve meals that don't require cooking.

In addition all schools are equipped with 911 radio systems to reach local emergency personnel and administrators have cell phones.
