Abigail Velez joined the WNCT Team in January 2023 as a multimedia journalist.
Abigail graduated from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas, in December of 2022 with a degree in Multimedia Journalism.
While at UIW, Abigail served as a reporter and lead anchor for UIWtv, a student-run newscast. Abigail also wrote for the Logos, the student newspaper, and was an on-air host for the university’s radio station. Additionally, Abigail served as the chief of staff in the UIW Student Government Association.
Prior to relocating to the East Coast, Abigail served the central Texas community as Miss San Antonio USA, and founded her own social awareness initiative, #ValueYourVote. As a Bexar County Voter Registrar, Abigail registered over 200 people to vote in the Bexar County area. Abigail also received a proclamation from the city of San Antonio declaring September 19 the official Voter Registration Day in the Alamo city.
Abigail’s love for journalism began in her hometown of El Paso, Texas, while she attended El Paso Community College and the University of Texas at El Paso, before transferring to UIW on scholarship. It was in her early years of college that she realized the need for and importance of media outlets reporting factual and nonbiased news to the masses.
Abigail looks forward to serving the Eastern North Carolina community via storytelling and acting as a vessel of the truth in the media.
