ROSE HILL, N.C. (WNCT) – Duplin Winery held its 43rd Annual Grape Stomp Festival on Saturday. The winery is the largest Muscadine winery in the United States.

Muscadine is a grape you can only find in the south, which makes the Duplin Winery unique. They produce 45 wines yearly and showcase 12 at the event.

“In the muscadine family theres 72 different varities, we grow 7 of them and muscadines have a more fruitier and livier taste than a lot of other wines.” Jonathan Fussell, Vice President of Duplin Winery

The grape stomp is what attracts the 1,000 person crowd. Every year at the event people compete to see who can get the most juice out of the grapes and the winner gets a gift basket prize.

The winery opened in 1975. Jonathan Fussell and his brother took over the winery from their father in 2009, who took it over from their grandfather years before.

They continue to carry the grape stomp tradition and look forward to putting on another next year.
