A Greenville Harris Teeter will soon close its doors.
According to Harris Teeter Communication Manager, Danna Robinson, the location at 1400 Charles Boulevard will close on May 31.
“In the coming weeks, the Company will work closely with its valued associates to assist them through the closing process,” said Robinson.
Harris Teeter says the decision to close came after careful consideration and strategic market review.
Harris Teeter will offer its associates the opportunity to transfer to other locations.
Once details are firm, the Company will inform customers of this decision through in-store signage and e-VIC communication.
“I think it’s one of the few grocery stores that give students a discount and its near campus within walking distance,” said Cerita Dixon, an ECU student. “So, I think it will affect students a lot.”
“It’s going to be a detriment to the students,” said Cindy Lowery, a faculty member at ECU. “Some students don’t have transportation. They’re from out of town, international students. When the busses shut down, they have no access to food.”
One resident wished to remain anonymous but said it’s her home store and it’s problematic to have to drive all the way across town to go grocery shopping.
