A man has been arrested in connection to a shooting reported in Greenville on April 26.

The Greenville Police Department responded to 1500 Manning Forest Drive in reference to shots fired call on April 26 around 11:00 p.m.

Police said the victims reported they were exiting an apartment when they encountered two men on the sidewalk.

One of the men brandished a gun and both suspects followed the victims back into the apartment, police said.

According to police, the suspects fired several shots before running away toward an open field.

No injuries were reported.

A GPD officer spotted two individuals matching the description of the suspects near a wood line.

When the officer attempted to interview them, the suspects fled into the nearby wood, a release stated.

GPD K-9 Axle responded and located one of the suspects hiding under a deck at a house in the 3100 block of Ruth Court.

The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Jaylen Phelps, was taken into custody.

Phelps was charged with first-degree burglary, shooting into occupied property and resisting a public officer.

According to a release, K-9 Axle was a gift to the GPD in honor of community member and police supporter, Leonard Kulik, who passed away in early 2018.

Additional arrests are pending.
