A chase went over 100 mph before the suspect crashed into a truck at a gas station, triggering a fire that destroyed the suspect’s car and another truck in Wayne County Monday afternoon.

The incident began around 5:25 p.m. when Wayne County deputy Miguel Torres tried to stop a vehicle that was not displaying an N.C. registration plate, according to a news release from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect took off on N.C. Highway 55 West and then on N.C. Highway 111 South traveling
north, officials said.

“The suspect ignored the safety of the motoring public as he reached speeds of approximately in excess of 100 mph in a 55 mph zone,” the news release said.

The driver was also weaving in and out of traffic and passing in no passing zones, according to deputies.

Eventually, the driver tried to make a left turn off N.C. 111 onto Spring Bank Road by cutting through a gas station parking lot but lost control of the vehicle.

The suspect’s vehicle hit a truck which was parked and being fueled at a gas pump at Johnny’s Convenient Mart, officials said.

A fire started, which consumed both vehicles and the gas pump. No one was hurt.

The passenger was quickly caught and the driver was caught a few minutes later, deputies said.

Dallas Cervon Pridgen, 21, of Crawford Street in Goldsboro, was charged with felony speed to elude arrest, driving while license revoked and failure to register vehicle with state.

Rahzel Dre’von Forbes of Kings Branch Drive in Greenville was charged with resist, obstruct and delay a government official and fail to obey lawful commands.

Pridgen is being held on a $10,000 bond while Forbes is being held on a $3,000 bond.
