One Wayne County family is living through a nightmare on Christmas after the sheriffs office said home invasion on Christmas Eve sent three people to the hospital.
Just before midnight on Christmas Eve, three people came into a Dudley home with guns, demanding money.
“It’s very concerning because like I said it could’ve been us,” said the family’s next door neighbor, who did not want to be identified by name. “It could’ve been the house next door. It could’ve been any other house out here.”
Authorities say they received a call last night from a person in a panic. Deputies believe three people entered a Dudley home and started shooting.
“When I woke up the lights was flashing through the window,” the neighbor said. “That’s what woke me up. I woke up to use the bathroom and I seen them lights out here and I came to the window it was about 12:20.”
When deputies arrived they found three people shot.
“The whole time I’m thinking about my daughter,” said the neighbor.
Paramedics took the three victims to the hospital.
Police said a 37- and 41-year-old residents of the home were shot.
A 28-year-old whi lives nearby was also shot.
Authorities interviewed others in the home and learned that three people entered the home demanding money and then started shooting.
“It’s the kids,” said the neighbor. “It ain’t even about us it’s about the kids you feel me. It’s supposed to be a holiday where the kids get to open their presents, but you got that family right there they’re getting up, their family members gonna live to see the days so it’s kinda sad. It ain’t kind of sad, it’s real sad.”
Their neighbor says if it were him, he’d be packing up and moving. He just hopes whoever did this is caught.
“That’s the worst,” he said. “That’s something they got to live with for the rest of their life. They got to deal with that. They got to wake up every morning knowing on Christmas Eve 2018 somebody broke in my house and we could’ve lost our life. It’s terrible.”
Two of the victims were airlifted to Vidant Hospital in Greenville for treatment.
CBS 17 did speak briefly with the family off camera, they did not want to talk, but said they think their family members will be OK.
