5 pedestrians injured in Roanoke Rapids after being struck by car

Five people were hurt after being hit by a single vehicle Saturday morning.

According to Roanoke Rapids Police, it happened around 11:50 a.m. Saturday near the 1500 block of Julian Allsbrook Highway.

When police arrived, they found five people had been struck by a single vehicle. All five were transported to Halifax Regional Medical Center ER for treatment. Two of those injured were later flown to a trauma center for treatment, a third was transported to a trauma center by ambulance.

Preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the vehicle, 25-year-old Karmesha Danielle Bowers, accelerated and lost control of the vehicle while exiting McDonald’s. Bowers is now charged with no operators’ license, careless/reckless driving and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. She was released to the custody of a responsible person until her April 9, 2018 court date.

The vehicle that Ms. Bowers was driving had a 6 and 5 year old juvenile as passengers, that were not restrained.  Ms. Bowers and the juveniles were not injured in this collision.
