6-year-old shot in Nash County, deputies say

NASHVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) – A 6-year-old boy is out of surgery and expected to make a full recovery hours after he was accidentally shot Tuesday afternoon in Nash County, the sheriff’s office said.

Around 2 p.m., deputies responded to the 5900 block of Maggie Road in Nashville regarding a person being shot.

The victim’s 16-year-old brother had friends over. One of them had a gun and was showing it off when it fired, striking the child. Deputies described it as careless, but accidental.

The sheriff’s office said the boy was airlifted to a hospital. He has since undergone surgery and is expected to recover.

Before the shooting, the neighbor said she saw the boy out often playing with other children in the area.

Investigators said there is no danger to the public.
