Adventure Day to offer living history experience in New Bern

This Saturday in New Bern, families can get a hands-on experience of daily life and local culture during the Civil War era.

The annual Harry Goodman Battlefield Adventure Day will be held on Saturday, from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m., at the New Bern Battlefield Park on 300 Battlefield Trail.

Adventure Day participants will be greeted by Civil War battle re-enactors and will enjoy a commissary lunch.

Children and adults can participate in military practice drills and Civil War period games, crafts and other activities.

Battlefield guides will also provide an informative walking tour of the battlefield.

Adventure Day will end with artillery live fire demonstration by McCullough Living History.

The event is open to people of all ages, with special activities for children 6-12 years old.

Check-in begins at 11:30 a.m. with activities from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm.

Admission to Adventure Day is $10 for the first family member, plus $5 for each additional adult or child, with a $20 maximum for a family.

Discounts are offered for active duty military members and families qualifying for a free or reduced-cost school lunch program.

After Adventure Day, the public is invited to help clean up the New Bern Battlefield Park, as part of the American Battlefield Trust’s “Park Day.”
