The Pitt County Animal Shelter will temporarily have limited space available for the housing of dogs and will not be able to accept owner surrenders, officials said.
According to a release, the limited space is due to construction work to complete needed repairs in the dog housing area.
The repair work is anticipated to take between two-three weeks, as weather and staffing permits.
Approximately one-half of the current kennel area will be affected.
The already limited space available will be reserved for emergency calls and quarantine cases only.
All regular animal services will still be maintained during this time, and no impacts to service calls are anticipated.
Those with urgent concerns cant contact Pitt County Animal Services at 252-902-1725.
The work will address recently identified repair needs to the existing facilities and is not related to the ongoing Shelter Expansion & Renovation project.
Updates on the repair work and shelter capacity will be posted regularly on the Pitt County Animal Services Facebook Page.
