Apex Police say an incident late Thursday night that prompted multiple agencies to respond ended in a fatal officer-involved shooting.

Apex police, Wake County deputies and the Apex Fire Department responded to an incident along the 3000-block of White Cloud Circle after 11:30 p.m.

It wasn’t clear whether it was an Apex police officer or a Wake County deputy who shot and killed the suspect.

Apex police said fire officials responded because of smoke evidence on the outside of the house.

A neighbor who spoke with CBS 17 said he heard gunshots.

The sheriff’s office said the incident will be investigated by Apex police. The State Bureau of Investigation will also investigate, which is part of the procedure for officer-involved shootings.

CBS 17 has a crew at the scene and will update this story as more information becomes available.
