The Beaufort County School System plans on adding more school resource officers into their school system.
The system currently has seven school resource officers. They have one at every high school in the county and the middle and elementary schools share one.
However, now with this new $133,000 grant from the state, and additional financial help from the county commissioners, the system will now have one SRO at each of the 14 schools by the end of the school year.
“First and foremost we want our students, our parents and employees to feel safe at work.” said interim superintendent Mark Doane. “We have 14 sites, the goal is to have 14 SRO’s.”
The Beaufort County School Systen says school safety is one of their top priorities. The county hopes to start adding new SRO’s by the end of September.
