The Bertie County School District is hosting a regional school safety forum.
The district is hoping to get a lot accomplished today on the topic of safety.
School officials say school safety has always been a top priority and will always continue to be.
The idea was brought up by county commissioners and Superintendent Dr. Catherine Edmonds.
School officials say the community is on their side discussing these topics because of how frequently incidents occur at schools around the nation.
The sessions aren’t limited to just physical threats to students but their mental health as well.
“Bullying was at the top of their list,” said Edmonds.
“I’ve had parents talk to me about bullying in the schools and wanting to pull together their resources and come together like a roundtable and talk about what we can do around bullying.”
Some keynote speakers include congressmen GK Butterfield, members of the SBI and advisors to the governor.
Dr. Edmonds hopes by reminding kids over and over of the procedures and where they can go for help, it will stick in case of an actual emergency.
