BMS students selected for ‘Step Up to STEM’ program

Two students from Bertie Middle School have been selected for the “Step Up to STEM” program at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics.

Jahkia Basnight and Timya Freeman were two of 50 students in the whole state that were chosen.

“Step Up to STEM” is a week-long summer program where students build their skills in science, math and communications.

Both Jahkia and Timya will attend free of charge.

Those in the community are excited and supportive of the young girls.
