Congressman G. K. Butterfield made a statement on the announcement that Washington County Hospital is set to reopen in the coming days.
“Before it’s closing in February 2019, I sent a letter to senior officials urging them to not close the hospital and further inconvenience residents in the surrounding area,” said Butterfield. The closing of this hospital created a significant burden on the community and has forced some to travel more than 30 miles for healthcare services. I am glad to hear that the Washington County Hospital will be reopening in the coming days to serve the surrounding community with quality care.
Butterfield added, “While the reopening announcement is good news for patients and employees of the hospital, we must ensure vigilance in the requisite oversight of the hospitals’ reopening. Issues such as employee back pay, maintenance of patient records, safeguarding of drugs and equipment are a few examples of what must be properly accounted for. I look forward to working with local officials in ensuring a suitable and stabilized reopening of Washington County Hospital.”
