Carteret County students returned to classes Tuesday, marking their first day back since Hurricane Florence.
School employees were back at work on Monday.
According to a release from the Carteret County Public School System, contractors and maintenance staff have cleaned the schools by working 24-hour days with rotating shifts for the last two weeks.
School officials said, with the assistance of an industrial hygienist, schools buildings are healthier and cleaner than they were before the hurricane.
Make-up days have not been determined.
All Carteret County Public School students will receive federally funded breakfast and lunch through the rest of October.
