Cement truck driver hospitalized after rollover crash on U.S. 70 in Morehead City


A truck driver was injured after his truck overturned as he ran a red light while turning at an intersection in Morehead City on Thursday.

According to Morehead City Police Cpt. Tim Guthrie, the crash happened at 12:25 p.m. Thursday, at the intersection of 4th Street and U.S. 70.

Police say Stephen Andrew, of Hurbert, was driving southbound on 4th Street in a cement mixing truck owned by S&W Ready Mix Cement Co., when he ran a red light as he tried to turn left onto U.S. 70, and his truck overturned.

Andrew was taken to Carteret Healthcare for treatment of minor injuries.

No one else was hurt in the crash, but damages to the road and cement truck were estimated at $80,000.

Investigators say traffic was backed up for 4 and a half hours at the intersection while crews cleared the crash scene.
