Coastal Carolina Regional Airport has some expansion and improvement projects happening right now from an apron expansion to a terminal and holding area expansions.
The airport director said all of these changes are designed around the passenger needs.
The airport is in the final stages of its tarmac expansion at its commercial terminal.
Adding 90,000 square feet to the tarmac and changing the surface to concrete to hold larger planes.
The tarmac expansion is a $5.5 million project funded by a federal grant and money from the North Carolina General Assembly.
Passengers hope the expansion will benefit the community.
The expansion project is part of the airport’s 20-year plan which focuses on expanding terminals, passenger holding areas, airline ticket counters, and TSA area.
The improvements are big investments and shorter said they’re worth it because of the value an airport brings to the community.
