In response to the COVID-19, Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church and Humble Soul Restaurant held a food distribution drive on May 12.

Food was donated by the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina.

The event took place at 1095 Allen Road, and was supposed to run from 3 p.m.-7 p.m.

However, cars started lining up for food boxes at 1:30 p.m.

Food boxes contained items like fruits and vegetables, milk, eggs, and other non perishable items.

Each car was given no more than two tickets. Cars then give the ticket back, get food put into their car, then exit.

At around 5 p.m. the food boxes had all been handed out.

The event served 588 people in 336 cars, with 19,000 pounds of food handed out.

Pastor Stephen Greene Howard says he hopes the church can make food distributions like this a regular event.
