Dog rescued from house fire in Currituck

Currituck County Fire, with assistance from Chesapeake and Virginia Beach, responded to a residential structure fire late Sunday evening. 

At 10:38 p.m., Virginia Beach dispatch received a call from a person nearby who said there was a fire in the 100 block of Whitehurst Road. 

Firefighters arrived on scene and saw fire showing from the roof of the home. Crews began a primary search inside and located a dog who received treatment and was later returned to the owner. 

The fire was marked under control at 11:24 p.m.The roof and rear side of the home was heavily damaged by the fire. Fire officials say the fire originated on the home’s deck. No injuries were reported to the residents or firefighters. 

Five people and two dogs were displaced by the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
