Driver taken to hospital after tanker rolls over in Pitt County

A water tanker driver was taken to Vidant Medical Center Friday after the vehicle rolled into a ditch on Highway 903 near the Pitt and Greene county line.

The wreck happened around 8:45 a.m, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. 

The tanker was filled with water, and the highway as closed until 1 p.m.

The 18-wheeler is owned by Harris Farms of Snow Hill.

To get the tanker back upright, workers drilled holes in the tanker to drain the water. 

The Highway Patrol is still investigating the wreck.
