We’re getting closer to the Spring Commencement Ceremony at East Carolina University.
Expect to see the seats of Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium filled with thousands of students, faculty, family and friends.
More than 5,000 students are receiving their degrees.
The ceremony starts at 7 p.m.
Ahead of tonight’s ceremony, 9 On Your Side interviewed the commencement speaker, Emily Procter.
Procter is a Raleigh native and ECU alumna, working at WNCT as a weekend weather anchor during her time here in the East.
She went on to have television roles on CSI Miami and the West Wing.
Listen to what she had to say when WNCT asked what the best advice she has for all the graduates, beginning their careers.
“Do not be afraid, there is so much bureaucracy and propaganda and focus on the negative, but when you have the negative, there is so much opportunity to focus on the positive,” said Procter.
Procter said she hopes her speech inspires the Class of 2019.
