Emerald Isle conditions improves but moderate rip current risk remains

Yellow flags are returning to Emerald Isle after observations made Thursday morning indicated that ocean conditions are gradually improving.

Officials said the public may resume normal recreational use of the ocean in Emerald Isle.

The Town urges everyone to be cautious when playing in the ocean.

The National Weather Service has issued a moderate rip current warning for Emerald Isle.

The Town is returning to yellow flags conditions which are the area’s normal designation, due to the fact that entering the ocean always involves some degree of risk.

The Town flies yellow flags at the Eastern Ocean Regional Access, Western Ocean Regional Access, at Bogue Inlet Pier, on Town ATVs, and at the two Fire Stations on NC 58, but does not fly them along the entire beach strand in the same locations as the red flags.

Officials said that although the red flags have been removed, the public should be cautious.
