The next hurricane season is only three months away, and Camp Lejeune is still recovering from Hurricane Florence.
Today Governor Roy Cooper visited Camp Lejeune to shine a light on the issues the Marine Base is facing.
He spoke with base officials who made the needs of the base known, such as $2B in military construction, $1.2B in repairs, and another $1.2B in critical infrastructure for communications and trailers.
“We’re not dealing with 500-year floods anymore,” Cooper said. “We’re dealing with events that are going to occur more frequently, and so the military is looking at this as a way to upgrade and fortify these facilities. We want to do the same thing throughout the state”
This was Governor Cooper’s first official visit to Camp Lejeune since he took office in 2017.
