Greenville Utilities kicks off ‘Operation Spring Clean’ on water lines

Greenville Utilities kicked off “Operation Spring Clean” Sunday night.

The 13-week project will clean out all 631 miles of water distribution lines on GUC’s system.

Crews will be opening fire hydrants allowing them to free flow for a short period of time.

Staff at GUC say the clean-up initiative will have a very little impact on customers.

Crews will be conducting flows from 10 pm through 6 am.

“If you use water during that time you may see some discolored water but it won’t have any harmful impacts, you just have to make sure you flush your lines if you’re going to do any laundry or anything along those lines,” said Anthony Whitehead, Water Quality Manager, GUC.
