Thursday was the annual ‘State of the Region’ event for NC East Alliance.

More than 400 people from nearly 30 counties came to the Greenville Convention Center.

Leaders spoke about the region’s educational, workplace and healthcare performance, and how all those things relate to the overall economy.

NC East Alliance said the state of the region has improved in recent years, as leaders made plans Thursday on how to tackle some of the challenges in the East. ‘

“Dealing with the chronic unemployment in some cases, or how do we go about helping people take the next step in their lives whether they happen to be adults, how do we basically move them back to enable them to move up the economic ladder,” founder and CEO John Chaffee said.

Chaffee said it is important to work in the public school systems to inform students of the wide array of job opportunities in the area.

WNCT is a proud sponsor of the event.
