Following the deadly Easter explosion in Sri Lanka, many churches and organizations in our area are on high alert.
Greenville police said they get calls regularly inquiring about how to improve building safety following tragic events.
They hold church seminars and visit buildings to find ways to make them more secure.
Some tips include having good lighting at night, making sure you can see out windows, and using security cameras.
“Just being aware of your surroundings, knowing where you are at, being familiar with the building you are in, and having a plan in advance of something that can happen,” said GPD Sergeant Chris Viverette. We practice fire drills every day. We need a plan for something like this.”
GPD said they do building evaluations free of charge.
You can call their non-emergency line to schedule one.
