JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Down the road from the Marine Boulevard and Gum Branch intersection, Jacksonville firefighters battled flames all day as part of a controlled burn training exercise.
The property owner donated the vacant home off Moosehart Avenue for the exercise.
Jacksonville Fire & Emergency Services personnel set the home on fire multiple times throughout the day.
“This type of training is invaluable to the continued mission of the Fire & Emergency Services Department to be ready to fight fire and save lives,” said Chief Mike Yaniero, director of public safety. “This training is a contributing factor in the agency’s national accreditation as a fire service.”
The aluminum siding on the house melted from the extreme heat.
The deputy fire chief said flames reached temperatures of more than 200 degrees.
