Jacksonville Transit adds new Blue Route service starting Friday, free rides

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) Jacksonville Transit is adding a new route to Bus service in the City beginning Friday.

The new Blue Route, 104 connects with existing routes and offers stops at retail, restaurants and more on Gum Branch Road, Western Blvd and Bell Fork Roads.

The Council had previously approved a new route that would extend the service to more of the City.

The new Blue route will provide access to areas known to have mobility challenges, and will provide improved connectivity to critical resources such as employment sites, education sites and grocery stores.

Jacksonville Mayor Sammy Phillips and Council have approved not charging riders on any bus routes until a time in the future.

The free rides begin Friday, but the City encourages residents to remain at home whenever possible.

Jacksonville transit drivers are provided with masks, gloves and sanitizer goods for their use.

Seats directly behind the driver are reserved to provide social separation from the driver and passengers are encouraged to maintain a six-foot buffer around them while onboard.
