JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — A 14-year-old was taken to the hospital after being struck several times by gunfire in his home on Sunday.
Officers with the Jacksonville Police Department were near Holiday City Mobile Home Park on Sunday around 7:49 p.m. when they heard the shooting. They responded to the area where the gunshots came from and found there were several rounds fired into a home on Terry Lane.
A 14-year-old was inside the home when shots were fired and sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The teen was taken to the Naval Hospital at Camp Lejune.
Officers retrieved shell casings and spoke to witnesses.
“At this time, this appears to be an isolated incident. This is an active and ongoing investigation. Detectives are working on several leads and are identifying suspects. We are asking anyone with knowledge of this incident to come forward.” said Lt. Christopher Funcke, Investigative Services supervisor.
On Friday, a second suspect was arrested and is facing charges. Kanye Lorenzo Shepard, 19, turned himself in at the sheriff’s office. He was charged with the following:
- Common Law – Attempted Murder
- Robbery with Dangerous Weapon
- Felony Conspiracy
- Discharge Weapon Into Occupied Property/Building
- Assault with Deadly Weapon Serious Injury
Shepard was being held in the Onslow County Detention Center under a $300,000 secured bond.
Earlier this week, a juvenile suspect was charged and was in custody for their part in the shooting. The name of the juvenile will not be released. Investigators have also located the red Ford Mustang used to flee the scene of the shooting.
