Kayak Launch recovers from hurricane damages at Hammock Beach State Park

The Hammock Beach State Park in Swansboro has officially reopened their kayak launch today.

After eight months of rebuilding due to Hurricane Florence damages, visitors can now use the kayak launch to get to trails and Bear Island.

Park Ranger, Jake Vitak reminds kayakers to always carry water to avoid dehydration.

“If you decide to go out on the water please, please absolutely wear a life jacket or PFD,” Vitak said. “That goes for everybody not just sitting in the boat, but make sure you are wearing it, that it’s zipped up and it’s snapped and clipped on.”

Vitak said contractors are working on other projects at the park, including the ferry docks, which are expected to reopen by midsummer.
