It’s been the big story over the last few days, it is very hot outside.
That’s why some senior citizens in eastern North Carolina are coming inside for a break.
The Council on Aging’s Five Centers in Pitt County is busy as people try to beat the heat.
Health experts said the elderly are more susceptible to heat-related illnesses.
“Folks with chronic conditions are very aware that the heat affects them differently, so we remind them to take it easy in the heat, not to overdo it, stay hydrated and find a shady spot or a cool place to rest is a grand idea,” said Lori Cortright, Director of Aging Services of Pitt County Council of Aging.
The council gives away fans free of charge to eligible seniors in need.
Officials said family and friends should check on seniors to make sure they are safe in this hot weather.
