Man charged with murder after 2 found shot to death in Goldsboro home


A man has been charged with murder after two people were found shot to death Friday morning inside a home on Elm Avenue near Goldsboro, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said. 

Steven M. Mackie, 49, of Goldsboro, was charged with two counts of murder.

The Wayne County 911 center received a call of a shooting reported at 107 Elm Avenue in Goldsboro Monday around 5:50 a.m.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived on the scene and spoke with the female caller.

Deputies then ordered Mackie to exit the home and he was detained at the scene.

Deputies then entered the home and said they found two victims inside.

One female and one male victim was found deceased in the home.

The victims were identified as Kathryn B. McCloud, 25, of Goldsboro, and Keith E. Presnell, 27, of Ohio.

The scene was secured and detectives were dispatched to the scene.

A search warrant was secured for the home.

The female 911 caller and Mackie were transported to the Sheriff’s Office for interviews.

At the conclusion of the interviews, Mackie was charged.

Mackie was sent to the Wayne County Jail under no bond.

The investigation is still ongoing.
