Medical students at ECU are hosting an event called “Pirates Vs. Cancer” in an effort to raise money for children impacted by cancer.
Many students say it is an event they look forward to every year.
The money raised will fund support programs and services for cancer patients at the James and Connie Maynard Children’s Hospital at Vidant.
“We have tons of student and faculty that have volunteered to cut their hair or shave their heads in solidarity with the patients at the childrens hospital and if you have hair long enough to donate to children who have lost their hair to cancer,” said Danielle Goltermann, medical student and president of “Pirates Vs. Cancer.”
The event will be on Apr. 5 from 4 to 7pm on ECU’s Health Science campus.
There will be food and live music at the event. Patients from the children’s hospital will also come to help shave and cut hair.
The group has raised more than $19 thousand but their goal is $25 thousand. They have raised $50 thousand from 2017 to 2019.
