Raleigh, N.C. (WNCN) – The total number of fairgoers for the opening day of the NC State Fair reached 73,328, according to state figures released on Sunday.
The fair opened on Friday, a day later than scheduled due to Tropical Storm Michael.
The opening day total from 2017 was around 57,000.
On Saturday, attendance jumped to 121,111.
“Our two open days have been strong attendance days, which has been encouraging,” state fair officials told CBS 17. “Attendance to some degree is always going to be impacted by weather, so we are hoping for more clear, cool days ahead.”
State fair officials said the Junior Livestock Sale of Champions set a record this year with a $190,000 bid for the grand and reserve grand champion steers, hogs, goats, lambs and turkeys.
The state fair ends on October 21.
