NC Packs 4 Patriots sends care packages to troops worldwide

Leading up to the holidays, NC Packs 4 Patriots is shipping care packages to troops worldwide.

They begin preparations for Christmas in September, putting together 9,000 goodie bags for soldiers.

“It is our way to give back to those that are guarding the gates of freedom now,” said Jim Cacoulidis, a volunteer.

He was on the receiving end of the care packages when he served in the army more than 20 years ago.

“It is just a touch from home knowing that someone cares,” he said.

With his wife Penny, who is also a veteran, Cacoulidis travels from Fayetteville year-round to volunteer.

“We are a team,” she said. “It brings us closer because of our military backgrounds. Getting to put the personal touch and making sure they have the right things in the boxes…”

Executive director Barbara Whitehead said NC Packs 4 Patriots supplies all five branches of the military.

“We are serving on missions in every continent, every place in the world. Each troop gets a Christmas box, Christmas tree, lights, tinsels, decorations and CDs. Then they get goodie bags for every member of their squad or platoon.”

They have about 300 boxes left to send filled with handmade ornaments and greeting cards.

Jim and Penny are happy to help out and give troops a sense of home away from Home this Holiday season.
