East Carolina University fans and the Greenville community were at Five Points Plaza to celebrate.
There was music, food, and drinks.
But the City of Greenville and Pitt County are celebrating something different, the economic boost this weekend tournament will have on the area.
People will be staying in hotels, shopping and eating locally giving the area a boost of $723,000 to Greenville and Pitt County.
9 On Your Side’s Aaron Deane spoke with Andrew Schmidt, the Executive Director of the Greenville – Pitt County Convention and Visitors Bureau, who’s excited about the economic boost.
“So, we are looking at an estimated impact of $723,000 into the local economy,” said Schmidt. Great the economic impact is wonderful it helps our community it keeps our businesses.”
Schmidt goes on to say that with this impact comes a boost in traffic, but he said that’s ok because that means people are traveling to the area and will spend money here.
