In Martin County, a new 911 center is being built. The new center will serve several counties in the east.
The facility will replace the existing 911 call center located in the county courthouse basement. A new facility equipped with modern equipment will better serve the community.
The North Carolina 911 board is providing the funds for the facility located on Prison Camp Road, just outside Williamston. The project is costing $5.2 million.
The center will serve as a backup 911 system for Bertie and Pasquotank counties.
It’s expected to open in the fall of 20-19.
