NORFOLK, Va. – Petty Officer 2nd Class Yvette Mitchell, a native of New Bern, serves aboard a U.S. Navy warship operating out of Norfolk, Virginia. 

Mitchell graduated in 2013 from New Bern High School. The skills and values needed to succeed in the Navy are similar to those found in New Bern, she said..

“Growing up in my hometown, I learned to never give up and to keep pushing in life,” said Mitchell. “I’ve held jobs where I’ve been let go, but I never let those moments get me down. This gives me the mindset to just never quit.”
