The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is recruiting, looking for new troopers to join their ranks.
Applicants do not need a prior background in law enforcement or a college degree to apply.
Trooper Doug Coley encourages anyone to go to a local district office to get involved.
“Starting salary is around $37,000,” Coley said. “Once they graduate from school, they will get a 17 percent raise to $44,000, so the legislators have helped us out quite a bit with the starting pay.”
Coley said State Highway Patrol got a bump this year not only in starting pay but also top pay, which is $64,000.
They are trying to fill as many spots as possible, and schools kick off in 2019.
