The Town of Mount Olive had a discharge of untreated sewer from inside the town’s wastewater treatment plant on 408 Wilkins Farm Road of approximately 637,500 gallons.

On Monday at 6:30 a.m., the spill was discovered and immediately stopped.

Upon review, Wastewater Treatment Plant staff realized the spill had lasted nine hours due to multiple types of equipment and SCADA System failures.

The spill originally started on June 9 at 9:30 pm.

The untreated waste entered the headwaters of the North East Cape Fear River.

The spill occurred as a result of the multiple equipment and SCADA System failure.
