Keeping your medication locked up and out of the wrong hands is one way to help fight the opioid epidemic.
The Coastal Coalition for Substance Abuse Prevention has teamed up with the Onslow Community Paramedic Program to offer lock boxes to senior citizens.
Each box allows you to lock up medications using a combination code which prevents anyone in your home from stealing your medication.
“These lock boxes will provide a safe place for these elderly people to store their meds so they can have them,” said Kelli Knapp, with CCSAP. “What’s happening is when the meds are stolen; you can’t just go get another prescription.”
The organization donated 25 kits to the Emergency Medical Services Department.
If you are interested in getting a kit you can contact the Onslow Emergency Medical Services Department at 910-347-4270.
