Onslow County has officially cancelled school for students through all of next week.
Nine schools in the county were still without power as of Thursday morning.
Other schools are still being used as shelters, and the county has shared photos and video you can see in the video above showing the extent of the damage.
Officials said they are working as quickly as they can to get the schools open again.
“We have contracted with some outside contractors through our insurance companies to start working on the remediation at the schools, to stop the leaks, to get the schools dried out,” said Brent Anderson with Onslow County Schools. “So that we can get the conditions where it’s going to be good for everybody to go back in.”
If the schools are still not able to be re-opened by the end of next week, Onslow County will issue a new announcement.
