An Onslow County business is celebrating their grand reopening after Hurricane Florence left extensive damage to their building.
Onslow Fitness reopened back in December and held their grand reopening Tuesday after being closed for three months.
The fitness center in Jacksonville has been operating since 1981 and due to Florence, the storm took a toll on the property like never before.
“The hurricane was so devastating and it was just wiped out, 37 years of work and energy. I’ve built this place with my blood, sweat and tears,” said Beth Saroka, CEO. of Onslow Fitness.
Workers made some arrangements for members to keep working out as the place was being renovated.
Longtime gym members say they are ecstatic to be back working out.
“I was very excited because I just love it that much,” said Bettie Welch, an Onslow Fitness member since 1984.
Rose, a member for three years added, “I was excited to see all the pictures for how everything got replaced and look brand new, so it was very exciting.”
The outside of the building was damaged and a majority of the equipment was ruined.
There was $300,000 worth of damage.
The fitness center still has a few changes left to make, but are hopeful to replace everything within the coming weeks.
